About Me
Jannie Giles has been surrounded by horses of all breeds and disciplines her entire life. As a child she trained her family’s Hackney and Shetland Ponies. Training and showing from an early age helped her to develop a special relationship with the horse; her theories combined with her attachment to the animal are essential to her training program today. As a teenager, Jannie was a top-rated equitation rider, instructed by the matriarch of saddle seat equitation, the late Mrs. Helen K. Crabtree.
Jannie’s independence and persistence along with her talent and compassion for horses enticed many people to send her training horses while she was still in her teens. Her professional career has been well-documented with regional and national wins. Jannie was the first woman to win the National Show Horse Five-Gaited Grand Championship. In addition, she has instructed many champion saddle seat equitation riders. She is very well-respected in the American Saddlebred industry for her ability to turn out top young prospects as well as re-inventing the careers of many older show ring campaigners. Amateur and Junior Exhibitors have been a big part of Jannie’s success for almost three decades.
Many years ago, Jannie became entranced with the beauty and athletic ability of the Friesian horse. As luck would have it, the first Friesian she owned started as a school horse and ended up a show ring legend. Robin ut de Warren and Jannie dominated the show ring from coast to coast. Together they enjoyed an incredible run of six undefeated seasons, besting world champions from many breeds.
Jannie is considered one of the most talented and respected trainers nationwide and has set the standard of excellence for the Friesian saddle seat division. She has also guided the successful careers of many hunter pleasure horses, show pleasure driving horses and the current two-time world champion Western Friesian horse, and is currently starting a Friesian colt as a reining horse. Jannie is a member of the USEF Friesian Horse Rules Committee and the USEF Saddle Seat Equitation Committee and is the owner and trainer of Black Horse Manor in Pleasureville, KY.
